Ramayana Ballet Prambanan Seating Guide
VIP, Special or First class? A practical comparison of the three seat classes at Prambanan — what is numbered, what is included, and which class suits your trip.

Which seat class is right for you?
Choose VIP if you want the best view and photography, Special if you want the best value, and First if you are travelling on a budget and do not mind arriving early for a non-numbered seat. The exact layout depends on whether the show is indoors at Trimurti Theatre or outdoors at the Open Air Theatre.
VIP Class
Numbered seat, usually in the most central or front section. Includes a soft drink and traditional snack.
- Best for photography
- Most comfortable option
- Numbered seating
Special Class
Numbered seat in a good central section. Includes a soft drink. The best all-round choice for most first-time visitors.
- Good central view
- Numbered seating
- Balanced price
First Class
Non-numbered seating in the remaining sections. Arrive early to choose your spot; drinks are not guaranteed.
- Lowest package price
- Arrive 45–60 minutes early
- Good for flexible travellers
Seating rules can vary by venue and performance. We confirm your class, section and arrival time before payment. Package prices are shown on the Tickets & Schedule page.
The best view and the most comfort
VIP is the class to choose if the view matters most. Seats are numbered and usually located in the most central or front area, with a soft drink and traditional snack included. It is the best option for photography, a special occasion, or travellers who prefer not to queue for a seat.
Choose VIP if you want:
- The best possible view of the stage and the temple backdrop
- A numbered seat without arriving early
- Extra comfort for a special occasion or a once-in-a-lifetime trip
The best value for most travellers
Special class is the sweet spot for most first-time visitors. You get a numbered seat in a good central section and a soft drink, usually at a lower price than VIP. The view is still strong, and you do not need to arrive as early as First class.
Choose Special if you want:
- A good view and a reserved seat
- A balanced price for couples and small groups
- A comfortable evening without the VIP supplement
The budget option
First class is the most affordable way to see the show. Seating is non-numbered, so the earlier you arrive, the better your spot. It is a good choice for backpackers, families on a budget, and groups who care more about the performance than the seat.
Choose First if you:
- Want to keep the cost down
- Are happy to arrive 45–60 minutes early
- Are travelling light and do not need a reserved seat
The venue changes with the season
The seating layout changes between the two venues. Because the layout is different at each venue, we do not publish a fixed seat map; we confirm the class and section with the ticket provider, then tell you where to go on the night.
Trimurti Theatre · Indoor
November – April. Approximately 378 seats. Closer to the stage and protected from the rain.
- Comfortable indoor seating
- Good for the rainy season
- Numbered VIP and Special seats
Open Air Theatre · Outdoor
May – October. Approximately 1,138 seats, with Prambanan Temple illuminated behind the stage.
- The iconic temple backdrop
- Atmospheric open-air setting
- Weather-dependent; may move indoors
How to get the best seat
Book early
VIP and Special seats in the central section are the first to sell out, especially in July, August and December.
Arrive early
Arrive 30–45 minutes before the show for ticket validation, the toilet, and finding your seat without rushing.
Tell us your needs
If you need an aisle seat, cannot climb stairs, or are travelling with a stroller, tell us before we confirm the booking.
Bring a layer
Outdoor evenings can be breezy, and the indoor theatre is air-conditioned. A light jacket is useful.
Frequently asked questions
Is VIP worth it?
If you want the best view, a numbered seat and a little more comfort, yes. If you mainly want to see the performance and keep costs down, Special is usually enough.
Are seats numbered?
VIP and Special are generally numbered. First class is generally non-numbered. The exact rules can differ between the indoor and outdoor venues, so we confirm before payment.
Can I choose a specific seat number?
We can request a section or preference, but the ticket provider controls the final allocation. We cannot guarantee a specific seat number.
Which class is best for children?
Special or VIP is usually easier because the seats are numbered and you do not need to arrive as early. Children must stay with an adult during the performance.
Is there a dress code?
No formal dress code. Smart casual is fine; comfortable shoes are useful if you walk around the temple complex before the show.
Can I upgrade my class later?
Subject to availability. Contact us as early as possible and we will check whether an upgrade is possible before the show.
Not sure which class?
Tell us your date, group size and budget. We will recommend the class that fits your trip.
